Qualified Charitable Distribution

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

Your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) can do more than provide for your future—it can help provide hope for others.

Once you reach the required age, the IRS requires you to take distributions from your IRA. A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to give directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like Matt Talbot, helping you make a meaningful difference while potentially receiving tax advantages.

Here are a few easy steps to get you started.

  • Verify eligibility. You must be 70 ½ or older at the time of the transfer.

  • Contact your IRA administrator to initiate the QCD.

  • Decide the amount you want to donate (you can transfer any amount up to the annual limit).

  • Your IRA administrator will send the funds directly to Matt Talbot. For a simple and direct transfer, ensure the check is made payable to Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (EIN: 36-3945814) and mailed to Lori Wellman, Director of Development,  PO Box 80935, Lincoln NE, 68501.

  • Ask your IRA administrator to include your name. We will send you the specific QCD tax letter you need.

  • If you would like to complete a QCD for the current tax year, give your IRA administrator plenty of notice. Transfers must be completed by December 31st to count for that tax year.
