Matt Talbot Displays Serving Hands

If you’ve been driving around town lately, you may have noticed hand sculptures installed throughout Lincoln.  Serving Hands, featuring six foot tall fiberglass hand sculptures is modeled after previous Public Art Projects such as Tour de Lincoln (bike sculptures), Illuminating Lincoln (light bulbs), and Nebraska Heart (heart sculptures).

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach has been selected as one of the display locations for the art piece “Oliver’s Bowl” created by artist Ian Anthony Laing.  Warren Distribution is the Benefactor for the artwork.  Laing was inspired by the movie Oliver Twist for the piece.  “We are faced with child hunger in our country and this image of Oliver’s bowl kept coming back to me. In the scene in the movie when Oliver makes his way for more soup, he stands facing those in charge, takes a deep breath and says, ‘Please sir, I want more,’ but he is chased away.“  The sculpture will be on display thru October. Then it will be moved to the Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday, October 24th, for a free, family friendly community event. On Friday, October 25th, all the artwork will be auctioned off to the highest bidders. One third of the bid amount will go to the artist with the remaining going to Campus Life, the project’s non-profit sponsoring organization.  Please stop by and admire this piece!
