5/1/20: Recipes To Support Immunity
In addition to the nutrients listed in the last newsletter (protein, vitamins A, C, E, B6, B12 and folate, and the minerals zinc, copper, selenium and iron), Vitamin D plays a role in supporting our immune system, the system in our bodies that helps us fight infection and stay well. Vitamin D actually helps our bodies produce immune cells and if we don’t have adequate amounts in our diets, can lead to increased infections and autoimmune diseases. We produce Vitamin D from a precursor on our skin when we receive adequate sunlight on our skin or we obtain it from Vitamin D-fortified foods, like milk. Here are some recipes from the Nutrition Education Program at the University of Nebraska that can help you obtain the required nutrients for helping support your immune system and stay healthy.
