Food for Thought

On September 6, 1992 Matt Talbot served it's first meal to the hungry and homeless of Lincoln.  More then twenty-five years and 2 million meals later, Matt Talbot is now a permanent fixture of Lincoln's safety net with volunteers providing meals and professional staff offering a wide range of outreach services to prevent and alleviate homelessness.

Learn more about the people, the services, and the heart of Matt Talbot from our "Food for Though" spotlights below.

Meet Curtis, Transitions House Manager

Meet Curtis, Transitions House Manager

Curtis overcame homelessness and is now Transitions House Manager, employed, saving money, paying off past debt, building his credit and celebrating 23 months of sobriety. After years of IV drug use he is grateful for his sobriety and how being in the house has changed him.  He is pictured here, standing strong with some awesome student athletes from the Nebraska Football team who volunteered at Matt Talbot.

“I’ve gotten off meth, have a job I love and feel like a citizen now. I feel great . Matt Talbot saved my life.”

UPDATE: Employed and more than two years sober, Curtis recently moved out of the Transitions House. Through our Landlord Liaison Project he was able to find an affordable and convenient apartment and he is HOME. Way to go Curtis!
