Food for Thought

On September 6, 1992 Matt Talbot served it's first meal to the hungry and homeless of Lincoln.  More then twenty-five years and 2 million meals later, Matt Talbot is now a permanent fixture of Lincoln's safety net with volunteers providing meals and professional staff offering a wide range of outreach services to prevent and alleviate homelessness.

Diane Beeman: Tuesday Shower & Laundry Volunteer

"I came to Matt Talbot in 2009 after my Mother passed away. My Tuesdays had been devoted to her, and growing up she always said "Be Nice." So after she passed I thought about what I could do to "Be Nice." Matt Talbot came to mind, and that was the start of my Tuesdays as the morning shower and laundry volunteer.

The past 9 years have been not only an eye opener but a gift. I realized those in need gave just as much to me as I hope I gave to them. Looking into their eyes as they sign up for two needs that we take for granted, and exchanging a smile warmed my heart. Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

We all just need to realize one small act makes such a difference in the life of those struggling. That is where Matt Talbot is a jewel in our city. Shining so many lights of encouragement to our citizens in need. I am blessed to call the staff and clients that come to Matt Talbot my friends.

Be Nice and Smile. It will make your day and that of another!

God Bless."
