Summer Needs at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach

Summer months are the busiest time at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, and outreach supplies are being depleted quickly. Matt Talbot is in urgent need of insect repellent products, hydrocortisone cream, and food pantry items such as canned meats, rice, pasta sauce, soup, powdered milk, pancake mix & syrup, cereal, and canned fruit.

Matt Talbot’s street outreach program has seen a great demand for insect repellant and hydrocortisone cream in the past few weeks. The unsheltered homeless are especially vulnerable during the summer months and are at a higher risk of being bitten by bugs such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, chiggers, and biting flies.

For many of the working poor who come to Matt Talbot, the emergency food pantry will be the only food in their home until the next paycheck. Every effort is made to provide a bag of food that includes the makings of a complete meal for multiple days. Currently the shelves in the Matt Talbot pantry are bare in many areas and staff is not able to put together a complete food pantry for those seeking assistance.

“Summer months are typically our busiest time, and this year is certainly no exception. The number of children and families we see in the dining room is growing,” said Susanne Blue, Executive Director. “Many of the folks we serve need assistance with these basic needs. A donation to help replenish our supplies will truly make a big difference to the individuals and families we serve.”

Donations may be dropped off at Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach, 2121 North 27th Street, Lincoln, NE, Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, except on Thursdays when MTKO is closed from 1 – 5 pm for street outreach and team meetings. Monetary donations to purchase items can also be mailed to PO Box 80935, Lincoln, NE 68501 or made online at mtkserves.org. No contribution is too large or too small to DO BIG GOOD!
