5/1/17: HOPE GARDEN
It’s spring again! And we have been having lovely weather so our thoughts have turned to the garden and getting it planted. This year we have begun a collaboration with Community CROPS, the community gardening program here in Lincoln. Check out https://communitycrops.org/ to find out more about this amazing program that now has twelve community garden sites, a training farm, a successful Community Supported Agriculture program, a youth garden and cooking education, a regular farmers’ market stand, and more. We are excited to have them join us in our gardening endeavors and will have an Iraqi family planting, maintaining and harvesting the vegetable garden this year. The gardeners are excited, too, as the plot at Matt Talbot in the HOPE garden is larger than the ones they can use through the other CROPS sites. We (Matt Talbot volunteers and staff) will still maintain four of the raised beds in order to have vegetables and herbs available for our cooking classes. We will soon have early vegetables planted and be eating them before we know it. Come take a tour if you have never seen our lovely HOPE garden—we’d love to show you around.
